A short film script.
EXT. JEAN’S HOUSE - DAY
Establishing shot.
DISSOLVE TO:
INT. JEAN’S BEDROOM - DAY
JEAN is asleep in bed when her alarm clock goes off. She immediately
turns her alarm off and then lays back down for a moment. After
stretching, she walks over to her bathroom. There, she washes her
face, brushes her teeth and brushes her hair. She then covers up some
of her blemishes with makeup.
After this, she inserts her ZetusTech contact lenses. Then, she
unlocks her phone and opens her ZetusTech lens app. As the app
opens, it shows 154 new notifications. She selects the “stream”
button, then looks directly into her bathroom mirror.
JEAN: Good morning everyone! Sorry if I look a little disheveled. I just
rolled out of bed. We have a big day today, so stay tuned.
JEAN grabs her hairbrush and begins brushing her hair as if she
hadn’t already done so.
MATCH CUT TO:
EXT. SURFACE VUE APARTMENT BUILDING - DAY
MANDY sits on the top step outside of her apartment building. She is
staring off into the distance, viewing JEAN’s livestream.
DANIEL exits the building and stops to look at MANDY.
DANIEL: You know it’s not healthy to spend so much time on that app, right?
MANDY: Huh?
DANIEL: Nothing. I’m heading out for a bit.
MANDY: K.
DANIEL then walks a few blocks before arriving at the grocery store.
He quickly pulls his phone out, then puts it back in his pocket.
WOMAN walks up to the door at the same time he does and he holds the
door open for her.
WOMAN: Oh, thank you.
DANIEL: Don’t mention it.
DANIEL walks into the grocery store, grabs a basket, then begins to
fill it with the ingredients he needs to make teriyaki salmon. He
walks to the seafood section.
DANIEL: Hey man. Can I get a pound of salmon?
EMPLOYEE: Yeah, I got you.
The employee weighs the salmon.
MATCH CUT:
INT. SUPERMARKET, SURVEILLANCE ROOM - DAY
The security guard is sitting at his desk, watching the surveillance
footage in the store. The ZetusTech logo is on the corner of the
television. The surveillance footage is courtesy of the employees’
contact lenses.
He focuses on CASHIER’s screen.
MATCH CUT:
INT. SUPERMARKET, CHECKOUT LINE - DAY
CASHIER in the “9 items or less” line is checking out BOY’s
groceries.
DANIEL joins the checkout line. CASHIER looks at BOY.
CASHIER: That’ll be twenty-five dollars and twenty-seven cents.
BOY: Oh. I only have a twenty. Can we remove the bag of chips and um.
BOY looks at his groceries to figure out what he should get rid of.
DANIEL looks at CASHIER.
DANIEL: It’s cool. I got it. Just add it to my total.
BOY: Really?
DANIEL: Yeah.
BOY smiles joyously.
BOY: Thank you.
CASHIER: Alrighty. That’ll be fifty-five even.
DANIEL: Even. Nice.
DANIEL pays for the groceries, then BOY grabs his bags.
BOY: Thanks again.
DANIEL: No problem. Enjoy those chips.
BOY: I will.
BOY then leaves the grocery store. Before leaving the parking lot,
BOY opens his ZetusTech app, goes to his favorite streamer’s account
and selects their preset. Suddenly, he sees purple trees, an orange
sky and the cars driving past him look hand-drawn. He puts his phone
back in his pocket, then proceeds to walk to the neighborhood park.
Once he gets to the park, he sits on a bench. He pulls his phone out
of his pocket and opens his ZetusTech app once again. This time, he
scrolls on his explore page for a little while before receiving a
notification. The profile picture of a streamer in his vicinity pops
up. He looks slightly surprised and intrigued. He clicks on the
stream, then opens his bag of chips and begins to eat.
He sees two feet walking on the sidewalk, but eventually, he sees the
entrance to the Surface Apartment Building. MANDY is still sitting on
the steps, virtually unresponsive. The steamer walks past her and
into the apartment building. The streamer enters his apartment unit
and places his groceries on his kitchen table.
As he washes his hands, he begins to speak.
DANIEL: Alright, guys. Today, I’m gonna be showing you how to make Teriyaki
Salmon.
FADE OUT.
